06/07/21 - New Music Monday
Updated: Jun 13, 2021

Happy Monday everyone!
I was able to see some live music in Nashville over Memorial Day Weekend and it brought so much joy. It feels like we're carefully escaping the clutches of the pandemic and there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
One of the artists I saw was Sam Hatmaker who released a new single last Friday called "Heavy". It's a good way to process everything we've collectively been experiencing in the last year. When you're doing okay but sometimes things can get to you no matter how strong you are. There's a nice pulse to the song as well even though it has a slow tempo. Hatmaker's voice is unique yet conversational with a crispness that allows her lyrics to be heard and understood.
A song to give you a boost of self-confidence is Sigrid's "Mirror". It's a bright dance track with a nice addition of strings in the chorus to sweeten it. It's a self-love anthem about seeing yourself, loving what what you see in the mirror and the freedom to accept yourself completely.
I'm seeing more and more of the 80's synth wave sound making a comeback and I love it. "Live to Survive" by Danish artist MØ is an example of this. It's about refusing to give up even when you make mistakes, get your heart broken or get knocked down. The chorus grabs your attention with 80's synth drums and MØ's commanding vocals.
