Happy Monday readers,
As much as we look forward to summer all year long, it can be exhausting. Gatherings to attend, friends to catch up with, endless things to do outside. Occasionally it feels like too much and I was right in the middle of that feeling when the rain moved in, cooled things off and almost felt like fall for a minute. I love it when nature gives us a forced reset.
"Memory" by Kane Brown and blackbear is an unlikely pairing that I actually enjoyed. It's an honest look at the perils of living life in fast forward, trying so hard to experience everything that you realize you're not even enjoying it or appreciating it. Brown and blackbear do a good job of combining their genres, the acoustic guitar for country can be heard in the choruses and the R&B indie/pop vibe of blackbear influences the raps in the verses.
A genius blend of traditional pop, by using the sample of "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys, combined with Reggae and Latin music we get blessed with a song that's truly it's own genre. "Good Vibes" by French DJ Willy William and features Dynasty the King and Richie Loop.
My favorite song on the playlist this week is "Shade of Yellow" by Griff. It's about finding a safe place with the person you're with and somewhere you can run to when you're feeling lost. I love Griff's choice of words with the 'shade of yellow' from the glow of a lamp that brings comfort; I knew exactly what she was talking about from the first time I heard the song, that feeling of home. It also has a great rhythm to it that makes it a good driving song to add to a road trip playlist.
