4/12/21 - New Music Monday

Updated: Apr 18, 2021

Hey there, happy Monday.

This week we have a wide range in new music for your eager ears. From the raw vintage rock sound of St Vincent to the heartfelt country of Brett Kissel it was a good week for new music.

Brett Kissel may be Canadian but he knows a thing or two about how to write good country music. His new album What is Life? is a tribute to his life and his family. He even features his children on 3 short tracks on the record which is heartfelt and adorable. His song "Kindness" is a reminder to us all of how simple actions can make a big impact in making the world a better place.

Taylor Swift re-recorded her Fearless album in order to reclaim her sound recording rights. She also gifted us with some previously unheard songs that she had written for that album. One of those is "Mr. Perfectly Fine" and even though I'd never heard it before, it felt oddly nostalgic. It's one of those songs that brings you back to being 12 years old and singing angry breakup songs when you've never had a boyfriend, yet somehow Swift's lyrics are gripping enough to make you feel her pain.

St. Vincent sounds like no one else who's releasing music right now. Her vocal performance is sensual, a little sexy and definitely powerful. She released 2 singles that will be featured on her upcoming album release, from these we picked "Pay Your Way in Pain". It features a slow funky sort of rhythm and the chorus section has a call and response section between St. Vincent and the background vocalists.
